Finding clean products that actually work can be difficult and expensive. Skincare is one of the hardest of the clean products to get. There are a lot of different chemicals added for scent, consistency, and to maintain shelf life of skin care.
Natural Beef Tallow
Tallow is rendered beef fat. It can be easily absorbed by your skin since it is made up of similar elements. Artificial moisturizers aggravate the skin causing irritation, and over drying.
Tallow naturally adds moisture to your skin and helps to heal any previous skin issues you have. It also has a lot of fat soluble vitamins that make it easily absorbed into your skin.
Tallow has been around for a long time. It was used by early settlers as a skin moisturizer because it was readily available on most farms.
With time, the farms became fewer, and the use of tallow for skincare became less common. Using animal fats on the skin was considered old fashioned as people were interested in the modern industrial revolution.
Unfortunately now we are seeing more and more skin issues due to the harsh chemicals put in our products. People are rediscovering the health benefits of beef tallow for the skin. This is a great article on it’s benefits .
Natural Lotion
I discovered beef tallow due to my own very sensitive skin. After I started researching products that were good for the skin without causing irritation, I read a lot about beef tallow, and decided to give it a try. I haven’t looked back!
I’ve shared this recipe with my friends and coworkers causing them to fall in love with it too. Recently I gave this lotion as gifts, and I’ve been asked to make again and again.
This lotion is especially great for your face in the very dry winter air. It’s amazing how moisturizing it is for your face. Working as a nurse, I keep my hand in water and alcohol solutions. This lotion is the best for healing dry hands and wounds.
Natural Lotion Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Grass Fed Beef Tallow
- 1/4 Cup Pure Shea Butter
- 1/4 Cup Organic Coconut Oil
- 30 drops of essential oil ( I prefer frankincense or lemon grass)
How to Make Natural Lotion Recipe
- Start by boiling water in a medium sized pot. You want the water to stay at a low simmer.
- Next place a glass bowl over the top of the simmering water to create a double boiler.
- Measure your tallow, shea butter, and coconut oil.
- After the water and glass bowl heat up, put the ingredients into the bowl together. Lightly stir until they all melt.
- After the mixture has completely melted, pour it into a stand mixer with a whisk attachment.
- Begin whisking the lotion on high speed until it forms soft peaks. This can take up to 10 minutes.
- Once the lotion has cooled some and thickened, stir in the essential oils. (note that some oils are light sensitive and will need to stored in a dark jar). If the lotion is too warm, the oils will evaporate.
The lotion will continue to firm until after it has completely cooled. This recipe makes around 8 ounces of lotion. You can also store this lotion for up to two months.
I hope that you ‘ll give this recipe a try. You’re going to love the way it moisturizes your face!
