Easy Chicken Recipe with Few Ingredients: Honey Wine Chicken
Honey Wine Chicken is simple to make and is a delicious addition to your weeknight dinner rotation. It cooks up within less than 30 minutes and uses simple pantry staples.
I have a house full of, Ah-hem, “opinionated eaters” so when I find a recipe that gets complaints, it’s always a home run!
The wine sauce in this recipe makes the chicken tender and moist. The longer you allow the chicken to marinate the more moist and tender the chicken becomes.
What you’ll need to make honey wine chicken
Equipment
- Stainless steel pan– You can cook on a different type of pan, but stainless steel heats better to give you a sear.
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Spatula

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Red wine- Use a wine you would drink
- 1/4 cup liquid aminos or soy sauce
- 2 gloves minced garlic
- 4 chicken breasts cubed into ½” pieces.
- ¼ Cup flour
- ½ tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 Tbsp Olive oil
- ⅓ Cup Honey
Directions
- Begin by mixing the wine, soy sauce, and garlic in a bowl.
- Add the cubed chicken to the marinade. It’s best to let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes or longer, but you can do less if you’re short on time.
- In a separate bowl, wish together the flour, pepper, and salt.
- Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Be sure the pan is preheated to prevent sticking.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade and coat it with the flour mixture. Save the marinade for the sauce.
- Add the chicken to the pan with the preheated oil, and allow it to brown on all sides.
- ** Tip** Don’t move the chicken around in the pan too much. Moving it will decrease the amount of sear.
- Add the honey to the remaining marinade and stir it well.
- Pour the mixture over the browned chicken. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Simmer the chicken for around 15-minutes.
- Serve the chicken with rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and scallions
-for a little extra vegetables, add 1 cup of broccoli to the chicken while it is simmering. The sauce with the broccoli is delicious!
-If you’re short on time, pour the sauce over the chicken while it defrosts in the fridge. This eliminates the time it takes to marinate the chicken.
-The honey wine marinade would also be great for whole baked chicken thighs. Marinate for at least 30 minutes. Place thighs in a glass casserole baking dish (my FAVORITE casserole dishes). Bake the chicken at 375° for 20 minutes covered. Add the honey to the remaining marinade, and cover the thighs with the sauce. Bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
Tips for cooking chicken
- Pat Dry Before Seasoning:
- Before seasoning or marinating, pat the chicken dry with paper towels. This helps to ensure a crispy skin when roasting or pan-searing.
- Let it Reach Room Temperature:
- Allow chicken to come to room temperature before cooking. This ensures more even cooking.
- Season Generously:
- Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper. Feel free to experiment with additional herbs and spices for flavor.
- Brine for Moisture:
- Consider brining chicken before cooking, especially for lean cuts like chicken breasts. Brining helps retain moisture during cooking.
- Sear for Flavor:
- Searing chicken in a hot pan before roasting or baking adds flavor and creates a golden-brown crust.
- Invest in Quality Cookware:
- Use quality cookware, such as cast iron or stainless steel. These materials allow for even cooking.
- Utilize Different Cuts:
- Experiment with different cuts of chicken, such as thighs, wings, and drumsticks, for different textures and flavors. Dark meat has the most flavor and is my personal preference.
- Use a Marinade:
- Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes to infuse flavors. Acidic marinades can tenderize the meat like those with lemon or vinegar.
- Let it Rest:
- Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes after cooking. This helps redistribute juices, ensuring a juicier and more flavorful result.
- Grill for Smoky Flavor:
- Grilling chicken adds a smoky flavor. Use indirect heat for bigger cuts to avoid drying out the meat.
- Baste for Moisture:
- Baste chicken with its juices or another liquid (like broth or melted butter) during cooking to enhance moisture.
- Consider Slow Cooking:
- Use a slow cooker for tender and flavorful chicken. This method is excellent for soups, stews, and shredded chicken.
- Avoid Overcrowding:
- When pan-searing or roasting, avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking and a nice sear.
