Equipment

  • 1 Glass bowl
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Spatula
  • 2 2-ounce Amber jars with lids
  • Large glass measuring cup with a handle

Materials

  • 1/2 cup Beeswax pellets
  • 1/4 cup Pure shea butter
  • 1/4 cup Coconut oil
  • 30 drops Essential oil Optional

Instructions

  • Fill a saucepan with a few inches of water. You’ll need a glass bowl that sits over the top of the water without it being in the water. The steam will heat the bowl causing your ingredients to melt without scorching. This is called a double boiler method.
  • Add ½ cup of beeswax pellets into the glass bowl.
  • Heat the saucepan over low to medium heat and let the water start to simmer. As the water heats up, your ingredients will melt down into a liquid.
  • Add ¼ cup Shea butter and ¼ cup Coconut oil to the bowl.
  • Keep an eye on everything and give it an occasional stir to make sure it all combines and melts evenly.
  • Once everything is melted into a smooth, creamy liquid, remove the bowl from the saucepan.
  • If you’re adding essential oils for a little extra scent, stir them into the mixture after it cools to around 165 degrees F. If you add them while the wax is too hot, they can evaporate.
  • Transfer the mixture to a large glass pitcher to make pouring easier. It’s best if you have one that is dedicated to making your beauty products.
  • Pour your lotion into clean 2-ounce containers. Allow the mixture to cool completely prior to using it. This recipe makes around 4-5 ounces.
