Equipment

  • 1 Heavy bottom pt
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving bowls

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 cups Whole Milk
  • 2 1/4 cups Water
  • salt To taste
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 cups Quick Grits
  • 8 ounces Shredded Sharp Cheddar I use Cabot extra sharp
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Instructions
 

  • In a medium pot, heat 2 1/4 cups milk, 2 1/4 cups water, and salt until boiling.
  • Add the pinch of baking soda, around 1/4 tsp to boiling water.
  • Stir in 1 1/2 cups Grits, and continue to cook on low heat for for 5 minutes
  • Remove the grits from the heat, and Stir in 8 ounces of shredded cheese, butter and pepper. Slowly combine until cheese is melted.
  • Serve warm
