Method
- In a medium pot, heat 2 1/4 cups milk, 2 1/4 cups water, and salt until boiling.
- Add the pinch of baking soda, around 1/4 tsp to boiling water.
- Stir in 1 1/2 cups Grits, and continue to cook on low heat for for 5 minutes
- Remove the grits from the heat, and Stir in 8 ounces of shredded cheese, butter and pepper. Slowly combine until cheese is melted.
- Serve warm
