- 2 1/4 cups Whole Milk
- 2 1/4 cups Water
- salt To taste
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 1/2 cups Quick Grits
- 8 ounces Shredded Sharp Cheddar I use Cabot extra sharp
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 2 tbsp Butter
In a medium pot, heat 2 1/4 cups milk, 2 1/4 cups water, and salt until boiling.
Add the pinch of baking soda, around 1/4 tsp to boiling water.
Stir in 1 1/2 cups Grits, and continue to cook on low heat for for 5 minutes
Remove the grits from the heat, and Stir in 8 ounces of shredded cheese, butter and pepper. Slowly combine until cheese is melted.
Serve warm
