Method
- Begin by preheating the oven to 400°F. Wash and rinse 4 cups of blackberries.
- Whisk 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1 cup pure cane sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the blackberries to the flour and sugar mixture. Toss the berries to coat them well.
- Transfer the berry/flour mixture to the cast iron skillet.
- Next, pour the ½ cup of melted butter over the berries in an even layer. Do not stir in.
- Whisk together 1 cup of milk and 2 tsp of pure vanilla extract.
- Pour the milk mixture over the berries and butter. Again, do not stir the milk mixture into the berries.
- Let the cobbler sit for around 5 minutes.
- Place the cobbler into the preheated oven. Bake the cobbler for 40-50 minutes until it is bubbly and browned on top.
- Your cooking time will be less if you’re baking in a casserole dish instead of a cast-iron skillet.
- Serve your blackberry cobbler warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream.

Helpful Tips for Cooking a Blackberry Cobbler
If you’re cooking with cast iron, preheat the cast iron in the oven prior to cooking.
Be sure to spread the cobbler out into an even layer so that it cooks evenly. If it is uneven, the edges will cook faster than the center.
Mash some of the blackberries with a fork prior to cooking. This will make the cobbler moister.
