Welcome to my modern farm! I’m Casey, and I strive for a life simply lived, but with a modern twist. I hope to inspire you to cook from scratch, grow as much as you can, and maybe raise a few animals too.
I’m a wife to Brent, and busy mom of four. I’m a former paramedic, a registered nurse, and a current public high school health science teacher. My background in health care has given me a first-hand account of the importance of healthy food, non-toxic products and an active lifestyle. This has evolved into a longing to grow my own food naturally right at home.
Here you’ll find tips on healthy lifestyles, starting a garden from scratch, raising animals, yummy recipes from the farm, and a few adventures in parenting.
Our little modern farm is nestled in the heart of East Alabama where the summers are sweltering and winters are mild. My goal is to show others that they can live a more natural life in the thick of full time jobs, and busy kids. I’ve been inspired by my grandmothers. A strong generation of women, that maintained a home, cooked from scratch, raised children, and did it all while working full time. They would have also loved many of the modern conveniences we enjoy today.
We have a flock of laying hens, meat chickens in the summer, ducks, turkeys, Idaho Pasture Pigs, farm dogs, and productive gardens.
Fun facts about me:
- I love potatoes, and will eat them any way they are prepared. I’ll never ever turn away french fries.
- My husband and I share the same first name, Casey. We also spell it exactly the same. It made for interesting wedding invitations.
- On a 6th grade trip to Washington, D.C. the train we were traveling on derailed. I slept through the whole thing.
- I once camped in the Midwest for 10 days straight, eating only fish caught from a stream, and sleeping in the bed of truck. I also still love camping, but with a real bed.
- I’m a big homebody. I love to travel, but prefer being at home over any place I’ve ever been. Give me early mornings, cozy sweats, and coffee over a night out on the town.
- I am a walking testament of God’s grace and love. I’d love to sit with a coffee and tell you about the fish and loaves in my life.
Feel free to ask questions and learn along with me. I’m so glad you’re here!
